About Us

For Girls By Girls

Imani and Erin are two friends who grew up in church together and started For Girls by Girls (F.G.B.G.) after seeing a video on Facebook posted by the website Bustle.com.

https://www.bustle.com/articles/190092-this-is-how-homeless-women-cope-with-their-periods

The video documentary was entitled NSFWomen
(Not Safe for Women);
this video highlighted the struggle of homeless women as they experience a monthly event that happens in the life of every woman. After watching it, they joined forces and started this Non-Profit, F.G.B.G. –For Girls By Girls. It motivated them to focus on this hygienic aspect that is missing when supporting homeless women and other women in need.

They founded this organization so that they can provide women living on the street, in shelter, or just in need the products they need monthly with no shame or stigmas attached. Having clean sanitary options every month should not be a burden to women. We believe women shouldn’t have to choose between a meal and pads/tampons.

Erin White
Co-Founder & Creative Director

Born and raised in Harlem, New York, Erin is a highly educated and well-traveled individual. She developed her artistic and musical talent at an early age. She was a composed pianist by the age of nine and a paid artist by the age of ten. Attending an all-girls private school followed by an all-girls Catholic high school, she developed a passion for women’s equality and rights. She grew to love to help others throughout her endeavors. She began working with children and the less fortunate after graduating high school which set the stage for her passion behind For Girls By Girls. As a co-founder of this non-profit her goal is to promote unity in women. By providing a foundation for service for women, through For Girls By Girls, Erin aims to reach women all across the world who are in economic hardship and let them know that someone out there cares for their well-being.

Imani Lia
Co-Founder & Creative Director

Imani was born in Harlem, NY and grew up in an artistic family. As a child she was a print model and stage actress; Imani found that she loved designing clothing and accessories, so she studied Fashion design at The High School of Fashion Industries in New York then at Savannah College of Art & Design. During those years, she began to build her own clothing and accessories company known as ImaniLia Designs (www.ImaniLia.com). Imani has traveled the world creating and meeting people.

In 2017 Imani teamed up with her childhood friend Erin and decided to find a way to help women in the community and maybe even around the world by creating For Girls by Girls; Imani continues to build her brand while co-founding/managing For Girls by Girls with Erin.

The mission of Bakery HNY is not only to bring quality kicks to clients,

but also to cultivate amateur designers

by bringing their ideas from conception to execution.

Our vision is to influence the world as a loving church

- each individual can improve, and a launching church

- each individual can impact their community and world to the glory of God!

In 2006, BRC created a 19-bed “Safe Haven” pilot program that allowed individuals

to enter shelters without traditional barriers like sobriety and curfew restrictions.

Today, the low-threshold program has been replicated throughout the city

and provides over 800 Safe Haven beds to men and women in need of support,

200 of which are operated by BRC.

It’s our mission to grow and cultivate small organizations...

Confident young girls make empowered women and empowered women make for stronger communities...

Today we address all aspects of community development:

assisting businesses to get started and grow,

training residents according to the needs of employers,

offering opportunities for youth to learn and develop,

and creating affordable housing and commercial space

that reverses blight in the community.

Since 1942, the Convent Avenue Baptist Church family

has sought to be a faithful witness for Jesus Christ in our community

and the world.
